How are we to define Europe? As a geographical, political or cultural entity? There is no doubt as to it being a geographical entity, its roots firmly entrenched in centuries of consolidated certitudes, and one can but hope that it may become, in the near future, a true political entity. The matter becomes problematic when one broaches the subject of European culture, in an attempt to identify its constituent elernents, its common founding origins. Suffice to seek out the common traits, the joint origins, and to enhance them, along with the differences, in .order to bring out a shared heritage, which sheds light and sparkles like a true diamond, rendered even more precious by its multiple facets, its many, individual, national characteristics. The United Europe of today, a feasible though ambitious project, represents the Utopian model for the 20th and 21st centuries.
